The Swiss Association of Medieval and Early Modern English Studies (SAMEMES) was founded in June 2007 by professors and scholars from English departments of all Swiss Universities. SAMEMES aims to

  • establish and maintain ties between scholars in medieval and early modern English studies
  • promote medieval and early modern English studies in Switzerland
  • provide a window on medieval and early modern studies in Switzerland
  • maintain a website that serves to advertise and disseminate information about the Society
  • explore critical and theoretical interests common to scholars of medieval and early modern English studies
  • organize an international conference in Switzerland on a topic in medieval and early modern English studies every two years
  • publish a volume based on the preceding international conference every two years

By joining SAMEMES, members are entitled to

  • attend all SAMEMES conferences free of charge (having paid their dues for two consecutive years)
  • participate actively in organizing the Association’s activities by joining the annual General Assembly
  • join an email list through which they can receive and disseminate information relating to medieval and early modern English studies in Switzerland
  • doctoral and postdoctoral members can apply for one of the two Research Travel Awards (more details under Early Careers Ressources)
