Conference

Every two years, the Swiss Association of Medieval and Early Modern English Studies organizes an international conference in a different Swiss university on a topic in medieval and early modern English studies that the host institution chooses in agreement with association members.

A volume based on the preceding international conference is then published.

The next biennial conference, Tolerance and Dissent, will take place from the 24th to the 26th of June 2026 at the University of Fribourg. It will be organised by Prof. Kilian Schindler, Prof. Elisabeth Dutton and Dr. Honor Jackson. The keynote speakers for the conference are Sharon Achinstein (Johns Hopkins University), Suzanne Conklin Akbari (Princeton University), Alexandra Walsham (University of Cambridge), and Adrienne Williams Boyarin (University of Victoria).

The call for papers can be accessed on the conference website here. The deadline for abstracts is 15 January 2026. Please send your abstract (c. 250 words) and a short bio note (max. 100 words), as any other queries concerning the conference, to samemes2026@unifr.ch. Further information on the conference can be found on the conference website (samemes2026.com)
